At Yonge & Steeles Dental Care we believe:
Dr. Shirley and Dr. Kenny have taken advanced training from world renowned institutes of orthodontics. During the patient assessment, we carefully study the status of the muscles of the jaw and the condition of the upper airway to precisely evaluate where the teeth should be and what has caused them to be out of alignment. What do muscles have to do with teeth? The way the teeth come together (your bite) is part of a system of teeth, muscles and joints. The teeth are the dominant part of the system. If they don’t fit together properly, the muscles and joints will accommodate --- work to get them together. This accommodation can often lead to muscles overworked and lead to problems such as pain or an improperly aligned jaw joints. |

How does the upper airway affect the teeth? If a person’s ability to breathe normally through the nose is restricted, it can have a marked influence on the bite. Allergies, asthma, deviated septum, enlarged tonsils or adenoids all can lead to mouth breathing. Excessive mouth breathing causes the tongue to exert abnormal pressure on the teeth and often causes the front teeth to move outward --- overjet. Restricted airway in your children can contribute to development of narrowed dental arches and crowding of teeth. Damon SystemAt Yonge & Steeles Dental Care, both Dr. Shirley and Dr. Kenny are trained to use the Damon System. Conventional treatment often requires removal of healthy teeth and/or the use of palatal expanders to make space. This approach is often uncomfortable, takes longer, and can leave a narrower arch and a flat profile. Damon smiles are full, natural smiles achieved with light biologically-sensible forces, and are specifically designed to improve the overall facial result of each patient. Advantages of Damon System
