Replacing Missing Teeth

We believe each one of us is given a set of dentition for good reasons and that our teeth work in harmony with our bodies.

Teeth are like little gears of a big engine. If one gear is worn down and comes off, the big engine may try to compensate with the neighbouring parts. The derangement of neighboring and opposing teeth leads to drifting, spacing and over-eruption. It leads further to straining of jaw muscles and compression of jaw joints. The inefficient masticatory (chewing) function will eventually affect our systemic health.

Implants

Dental implant is a prosthetic procedure to replace missing teeth. It should be planned with the end result in mind. The replacement teeth shape, size, position and bite relationship has to be determined before dental implants are inserted. This will ensure the functional use, aesthetic result and longevity of the planned prosthesis.

Too many times dental implants were inserted as surgical or periodontal ventures. Their point of insertion were determined by surgical convenience and technicality rather than the functional value of the future prostheses. Very often it became very difficult to put in the replacement teeth and in extreme cases just not restorable and useless.

At Yonge & Steeles Dental Care, Dr. Shirley and Dr. Kenny are trained in world renowned institutes of implant dentistry. We study carefully the occlusion, aesthetics and functions of the masticatory system before planning the replacement teeth. The proposed implant site is then evaluated with Panoramic x-ray, cone beam CT imaging and bone density to determine the optimal placement of implants. We use exclusively implants from NobelBiocare, world leader in dental implant manufacturing.
